The good news is that there is a remarkable number of crossovers from Giveaways on Goodreads to those being offered by publishers on NetGalley for the mere promise of a review.
The bad news is that I could not search for five-star books I could recommend from any that I read and reviewed recently. (My opinion, of course.) Oh, and the other bad news, I could not find a filter that would allow me to search for books other than (mainly) US. Apologies to my friends and readers across the pond, perhaps you get different listings?
There were some listed US and Canada. But actually, there were few filters, although you can search for Kindle format books. Why would they be limited to US? As you no doubt know, Giveaway books are listed as Featured, Ending Soon, Most Requested, or Recently Listed. Most of the books listed below appear on the Most Requested list…26 pages long. No filter for genres either and the following are mixed.
There are approximately 22 per page, although perhaps there is also a filter to increase per page views that I didn’t see. The last two appearing here were not found on NetGalley, but they are also by bestselling authors, the last of which will appear on the silver screens releasing August 9, 2019.

I never noticed the crossover Virginia. I have entered a few Goodreads giveaways and won one – way back. I seldom enter them anymore as I prefer to read digitally.

yes, thank you. I also prefer to read digitally, have no place to store books. Fortunately many giveaways are in digital form. What I didn’t understand was why that would be restricted to the U.S.

I’ve never entered books for giveaways at Good reads or Net Galley. Prefer to giveaway personally.
Is it better through GR or N G, or via the author direct?

The reach may be better in either GR or NG than an author’s giveaway unless they have a pretty vast list. NG is not free, tho I do not know the cost. Offering a book on GR’s is free, but you commit to sending the book out after the giveaway closes and depending on how wide you open that opportunity (US, Canada, etc) could run into some bucks for postage depending on the number of books you offer. The more marketing you do, hopefully the greater sales generated.

Selling your own books is a problem. No one mentions the time, dedication and cost associated with trying to launch your own novels. You really have to have a huge following. (I didn’t) Bravo for writing scripts for the BBC, at least you get to use your talent and that may still work to your advantage. Welcome abroad. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your posts!

I find there are far fewer for the UK and the selection on NetGalley is better, so I tend to just stick with it. I never won one any time I did try anyway! 😉

Netgalley has an amazing selection. Sorry you never won any on GRs GiveWays. Guess I just got lucky. Now i’d rather have digital books. No room for a library anymore.

I haven’t entered a Goodreads Giveaway in awhile. I have not found anyway to search, I just scroll and enter when I find something I like. Living in Canada, I find there are a lot of books I would love to enter for, but they are only available in the US. Good luck on any giveaways you enter Virginia.

I did see a few for both US and Canada, but surely because I’m in the US, I got that list and someone overseas would get another? It’s not an exclusively US website if Amazon is behind it. I was, however, gratified with the number of books I found in both venues. Two chances to win the book, one a download from NetGalley. If I win the print book…yay! I tried two–I used to have pretty good luck and received some beautiful novels from Giveaways.

I have won a few over the years, so yes, there are many available to Canadians, but there are many that are not. I think postage to Canada is a lot for independents, but other publishers seem to concentrate only on US customers. Oh well. I love that I found Netgalley.

Me too! Just wish I’d found netgalley a long time ago. I used to do (free) BookBub but they are usually much older books.
