My Life As A Nomad

Maybe I was a Gypsy in a previous life. Or, perhaps the lifestyle created when a child is still the one that resonates into adulthood–and if so–as usual, I can blame my mother. We led a rather nomadic life when I was a girl, sometimes attending three schools in one year. Those years were fairly confined to California and Oregon. (I can’t say anything about Oregon schools, but California schools definitely took a dive.)

So it was after hubby and I sold our home in Idaho back in 2013 that we took off in the RV. Our destination then was the east coast as we dreamed of tasting the lobsters in Maine north to running down the Keys in Florida to the south. As many of you will remember from my previous posts, we made it as far as Indiana where our son lives before the RV and the Tracker both threw up their radiators and surrendered. goodyear

I mentioned in my last post that we weren’t getting any younger and probably needed to locate near either our son or daughter. Plans have changed from one day to another and continue to evolve. Hubby is looking for work and it is hoped he may be successful shortly. Leaving Goodyear AZ will be bittersweet as was leaving the Yuma Foothills. Of course, the attraction of both locations is the winter living. Summers in either city are pretty brutal and you wouldn’t want to be there then. But winter? Beautiful!

I absolutely love the way the residents of the Yuma Foothills landscape their yards. At times, carrying the desert theme to somewhat humorous levels, the theme often included southwest decorations and colors. Yuma is an RV mecca. There are numerous RV parks, of course, but the bigger attraction is the “RV lots” for winter visitors (as opposed to “snow birds”) in the Foothills. These may be configured for 2 to 4 RV’s and can range from $285 to $400/mo. Our lot also had a laundry room, with private toilet and shower along with shared storage shed. (A chance to get all that crap out of the basement storage of the RV!) It’s a beautiful and comfortable resort-like setting with hiking trails, sand dunes, and the Barry M. Goldwater Reserve for adventurous four-wheeling.

The apartment in Goodyear is situated across from the Palm Valley Golf Course. The shopping is fantastic; so many attractions and things to do and the area restaurants are wonderful. The area is beautiful and promotes the desert theme as well with palm trees, variegated cacti, and bushes and trees in riotous evolving color, especially in the spring. There are green belts, parks, and tons of hiking trails. I’ve also alluded to the hiking trails in previous posts. The air is delicious–until about late April-May when the temps rise for the duration of spring and summer and it’s time to pick up the tent and move.

It has become that time.

INHousing and jobs are rather at a premium in the Treasure Valley of Idaho. Boise home prices are up and obviously in a recovery mode. We spent several days there looking around. Hubby had one interesting prospect, but I’m a little reluctant to be the trucker’s wife again, sitting at home and awaiting his safe return.

Now spending a little time in Valparaiso, IN with our son and trying to get used to a radical 180 in the weather that we were previously used to basking in. Today’s high is approximately 32o–snow flurries–gray and windy.

But…there are jobs here and the housing prices are better. Hmmmm…..Resource Box
