Renee began the Throwback Thursday meme on her blog, “It’s Book Talk” to share some of her old favorites as well as sharing books published over a year ago. Sounded like a good reason to join! My TT posts will not come from current ARCs or new releases. Means I’ll be going back over some of my oldies but goodies, my favorite authors, and some of my favorite stories from authors you might not have previously experienced. Hopefully, you’ll find either a story or author that interests you and you’ll check them out.
This week I am highlighting M. D. Grayson, another terrific, prolific author who has produced Mona Lisa Eyes, which was reviewed on Goodreads as part of his Danny Logan Mystery Series. He has actually written five in the series (I’ve read three). His books garner hundreds of reviews on Amazon and he consistently runs approximately 4.5 stars for any of his books sold on Amazon.
My Review originally posted July 15, 2015
Book Blurb: (From Amazon) A modern version of a classic whodunit: Seattle PI Danny Logan investigates the murder of a beautiful heiress. Danny Logan has known for a while that his partner, Antoinette “Toni” Blair is an extraordinarily gifted woman. But when she tells him one morning that Sophie Thoms is looking right at her with her “Mona Lisa Eyes”, speaking to her with her gaze alone, Logan starts to worry. And for good reason: Sophie Thoms was murdered three months ago. The police are baffled by the case and they offer no objections when Sophie’s father, billionaire industrialist Sir Jacob Thoms, hires Logan PI to represent the family. Danny, Toni, and the rest of the crew dive headlong into a foreign world – a world of wealth and privilege, a world of beautiful women and their superstar boyfriends, a world where normal boundaries and limits no longer seem to apply. They soon learn that this is not your normal PI case. Then again, nobody ever accused Danny Logan and Toni Blair of being your normal detectives.
My Review: I do enjoy the Danny Logan PI series set in Seattle (this one being #4 of the series) and his patter with his associates, as well as the relationship with Toni. This one investigates the murder of a British heiress involved in the state-side family charity and memorial foundation.
The murder(s) escalate but looks to be too easily solved when they realize that the one police see as the culprit doesn’t satisfy the quotient. The plot moves along nicely and continues to develop the characters we’ve come to know and love–and how well they fit and provide their asset–each completing the PI team that comprises Danny Logan Investigations. Toni Blair is particularly appealing, smart, Danny’s partner and romantic interest.
The only problem I had is the 4-letter language–unnecessary and detracting–but still the rest of the story lays out well, although not terribly fast-paced–it’s cozy, remember. I’ve enjoyed the series and can recommend to those who enjoy a cozy mystery or suspense.
About the Author: M.D. Grayson is the author of the Danny Logan mystery series. He grew up in Las Vegas but now he lives on an island near Seattle with his wife Michelle and their three German shepherds. Before becoming a full-time writer, Mr. Grayson worked in the construction industry, as an accountant for six l-o-n-g weeks (square peg—round hole), and as a piano player on the Las Vegas strip. When he’s not writing, he loves zooming about on two wheels— bicycles and motorcycles alike. In addition, he’s a pilot, a boater, and an accomplished musician who’s always ready for a jam session! ©2017 Virginia Williams
