Rosepoint #BookReviews – December Recap – Welcome to 2019!

Rosepoint Reviews - Recap - Welcome 2019

Welcome 2019 and Happy New Year to You All!

So thrilled you are here to celebrate the beginning of a new year with me and hoping yours gets off to a wonderful start with excitement for things to come.

My December, as yours, was fast and furious. I got in some great reads, however, including cozies, a children’s book, literary fiction, a domestic thriller, and a sci-fi for a total of ten book reviews, as well as a couple spotlights.

My book reviews for December:

If you missed any of my full reviews, just click the link below.

Dec 2 – A Midwinter’s Tail by Bethany Blake

Dec 4 – Violet Tendencies by Kate Dyer-Seeley

Dec 7 – The Kooky Kids’ Club by Robbie Yates

Dec 9 – Tandem Demise by Duffy Brown

Dec 14- Quantum Marlowe by Glenn Lazar Roberts

Dec 16- Chasing the Blue Sky by Will Lowrey

Dec 23- The Water Tower Club by B K Mayo

Dec 25- Oh Holy Fright by Teresa Trent

Dec 28- Justice Gone by N. Lombardi, Jr

Dec  31- Live and Let Pie by Ellie Alexander

I found new authors to follow and learned another lesson, that of trying a different series by the same author of a series you are not wholly thrilled with. I’ll mention Ellie Alexander, as I reviewed one of her Sloan Krause Mystery series, The Pint of No Return, and loved it. Guess I’m just not that into baking, but I know there are plenty readers out there who would love her Bakeshop Mystery series. You can’t go wrong with the children’s book, The Kooky Kids’ Club, while reading went serious (big time) with both The Water Tower Club and Justice Gone. (Raising awareness.)

If you joined a Goodreads Challenge, this is the fun time of year where they take all your stats and feed them back to you in interesting little chunks.

This little book really packs a punch and the success obviously acknowledged by more than myself. Take a look at your Goodreads stats. Mine have been skewed because of the contributions from my husband, which after some investigation discovered I couldn’t separate because we established one account on Amazon years ago which has now locked in our email addresses. And have you signed up for your Goodreads Challenge for 2019? Now’s the time!

Title and Cover: The Pint of No Return – Conveys picturesque Bavarian village

Book Blurb: Amateur sleuth Sloan Krause returns in The Pint of No Return, another delightful cozy by Ellie Alexander—this time investigating a movie star who’s murdered not long after arriving in Leavenworth, WA to film his latest project.

No other festival compares to Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, Washington. The whole town is buzzing with excitement over this year’s activities and eagerly awaiting Nitro’s latest offering Cherrywizen, made with locally sourced cherries. But local brewmaster Sloan Krause is tapped out. Between trying to manage the pub, her pending divorce with Mac, and her mounting feelings for Garrett, she’s fermenting in internal turmoil.

To complicate matters, dreamy movie star Mitchell Morgan and his production crew have arrived in the village to film during the authentic Bavarian brewfest. Mitchell has his eye on Sloan and a taste for Nitro’s Cherrywizen. Sloan escapes his advances for good when she finds Mitchell slumped over the bar. Is this a case of one pint too many, or has Mitchell been murdered by microbrew? Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts Meme

Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts

Welcome to Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted by Lexxie at (un)Conventional Bookviews. She realized that many of the books she read (must have been cozies!) had food or drinks in them and thought it would be interesting and fun to share some food and/or drink quotes.

There are a few rules with this meme: Just share the food or drink quote, and note whether or not it’d be something you’d be interested in yourself. Share the title of the book and the character who introduced the delicacy! Easy! You are welcome to use her logo or create your own but please link back to her blog and link your post to hers using her handy little weekly linky. The Pint of No Return by Ellie Alexander

This week I am highlighting a quote from cozy mystery The Pint of No Return by Ellie Alexander. It’s Oktoberfest in Leavenworth WA and who doesn’t love the location, the music, the German food (the desserts!), and all the special craft beers! (Protagonist Sloan is tasting a beer from another brewery…I don’t drink beer, but after reading some of this–sounded like specialty wines–I was ready to try it again!)

[regarding an Apple Weizen] “I acquiesced and tasted Hans’s offering. The apple beer was slightly tart, with a sweet finish. It shared similar notes with our Cherry Weizen, but I could tell the brewing team at Dere Keller had used a different proportion of wheat and malt.

“This is great,” I said to Hans. “Did they ferment this in the freezer?”

WOW! This book really gets into it! Do you enjoy Octoberfests? Attend any locally or travel? The Cascade Mountains of Washington are gorgeous this time of year. It’s a feast for the eyes…and Leavenworth the palate. ©2018 V Williams V Williams

Happiness for a moment with you....

I'm glad I learned to express my thoughts clearly and everyone loves to read them. Sometimes it takes a lot of thinking power to think about the surroundings. Someone who likes it, someone who enjoys it, appreciates that he is writing very well. Reading and commenting on the post I wrote would give me a lot of bullshit and I would get new ideas to write new ones. I'm really glad I got your response.
